Ella DeVries, BA
Research Coordinator
Ella is a research coordinator for the BRiTE Center. She is a clinical assessor for a BRiTE project working on developing data-driven clinical signatures for people experiencing hallucinations. These clinical signatures will help to predict individual differences in severe negative mental health outcomes, as well as determine whether smartphone-captured data can improve clinical utility. Her roles as a research coordinator include managing day to day study operations, coding and analyzing data, and serving as a point of contact/support for participants.
Ella graduated with a BA in Psychology and a BA in Philosophy from Seattle University. As an undergraduate, she worked in research labs at both Seattle University and the University of Washington. At SU, she worked in a personality psychology lab specializing in qualitative analysis of interpersonal moral behaviors and interpersonal feedback. At UW, she worked with the Center for the Study of Health and Risk Behaviors (CSHRB) specializing in adolescent alcohol and cannabis use. She worked on two research studies with the CSHRB: one focusing on tolerance breaks or “T-breaks” from cannabis and their potential efficacy as a harm reduction method, and one focusing on the relationship between adolescent substance use and romantic relationship functioning. She presented a poster about her findings from the T-Break study at the 2023 ABCT (Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies) in Seattle. Through her undergraduate research experience, she discovered a passion for working in research in the field of psychology to make a tangible positive difference in people’s lives. She feels lucky to continue that work with the BRiTE center.
Outside of work, Ella loves to read, explore Seattle, spend time with friends and family, do arts and crafts, and watch her favorite movies and TV shows.
