George (Weizhe) Xu

Graduate Student, Department of Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education

George Xu is a Ph.D. candidate in the Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education (BIME) Department at the University of Washington, with a focus on data science. His mentor is Dr. Trevor Cohen. His doctoral research involves analyzing text coherence for the detection of neuropsychiatric conditions. He developed the Comprehensive Coherence Calculator, which outputs the coherence scores of input texts using a variety of NLP approaches and can be imported as a Python package. He is currently working as a research assistant on a joint project with BRiTE center, where he is part of the analysis team. Before starting his journey at UW, George completed his BS in Bioengineering at the University of California, San Diego, where he volunteered at a tissue engineering lab that focuses on rapid 3D printing of tissues for in vitro modeling.
